Husband Became Paralyzed – About 1890

When her daughters were very young (Martha was about 10 yeas old), her husband, Heinrich, became very ill which left him paralyzed. After that he was wheelchair or bed bound most of the time. Margaretha and daughters did the farm work.

Husband Death – 28 Mar 1899

Her husband, Heinrich, passed away on March 28, 1899, in Farrar, Missouri, at the age of 49 and was buried in the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery. They had been married 28 years.

Margaretha’s middle daughter, Martha Margaretha Cordes, married Wilhem “William” Kirmse on 11 Feb 1904 in Farrar, Missouri and they moved to Shattuck, Oklahoma to homestead.

Margaretha’s youngest daughter, Marie Christina Cordes, married Joachim Johann Heinrich “Henry” Lohmann on 22 Nov 1906 in Farrar, Missouri and they moved to Shattuck, Oklahoma to a homestead next to William and Martha (Cordes) Kirmse.

Death of Daughter – 14 Dec 1907

Her daughter Anna Marie passed away on December 14, 1907, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, at the age of 31.

Death of Sister – 19 Dec 1907

Her sister Anna M died on December 19, 1907 in St Louis, Missouri, when Margaretha was 60 years old.

Moved to Oklahoma – 1909

In 1909 Margaretha Cordes, nee Meier, of Farrar, Mo. moved to Shattuck, Ok. to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Martha and William Kirmse. When the Kirmses moved to Alva in 1910 Mrs Cordes stayed at Shattuck and made her home with another daughter, Mrs. Henry (Marie) Lohmann. When the Lohmanns moved to Alva Mrs. Cordes moved with them and lived with them until Marie’s death. She then again made her home with William and Martha Kirmse. After years of failing health she died Aug. 30, 1929, and was buried in the Lutheran Cemetery at Alva.
